Security
Cisco PIX firewall
For customers requiring an enterprise level of protection for their managed data, we would recommend a Cisco PIX firewall. This is available as a single unit or as a pair to provide automatic failover and maximum resilience. The Cisco PIX firewall provides a higher level of protection than a server's built-in firewall because it is designed specifically with security in mind. As they are physically separated from the servers, they divert malicious traffic at the boundary of the network, before it has a chance to reach its target.
Cisco PIX firewalls are installed, configured and managed by our experienced security professionals, after an initial consultation to determine your exact needs.
For customers needing more enhanced security we would recommend the Cisco ASA (Adaptive Security Appliance) firewalls, which include an element of intrusion protection and anti-DoS (Denial of Service) / DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) protection. If required, these are also offered as a pair (single unit plus a 'hot standby unit') for high availability.
Managed SecurID authentication
If your business requires remote access to sensitive hosted systems and you need to positively identity remote users, we would recommend SecurID authentication.
SecurID is a fully managed server and token service hosted by Smartbunker, and provides secure 2-factor authentication by combining something you know (password) with something you have (token). This ensures the identity of remote users and is valuable in secure environments when authentication is required for remote user VPN clients, logging on to servers, or logging on to any device which supports ACE or Radius.

Managed Backup
Unrecoverable data loss costs businesses millions of pounds every year.
If your data is critical to your business, we would strongly recommend you backup your valuable server data. In the event of a hard disk failure, deletion or corruption, the managed backup will enable you to retain your data and continue to run your business uninterrupted.
Smartbunker provides a managed backup service for both Windows and Linux servers. This includes a backup manager, which customers can configure to customise and control their backup and restore jobs. All backups are transferred at high speed to secure servers located within the Smartbunker facility. All customer data is secure and separate.
IBM NAS Storage
For customers requiring additional hard storage above 4 x 73GB, which is the maximum available on our IBM blade servers, we would recommend Network Attached Storage (NAS).
NAS comprises physical hard disk storage arrays which provide expanded storage for single or multiple blade servers. Hard disks are hot swappable for easy maintenance and can be configured for RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) levels 0,1,3,5 and 10.
IBM SAN Storage
For enterprise customers with large or complex computing requirements that demand a sophisticated approach to storage, we would recommend a Storage Area Network (SAN).
A SAN interconnects the storage-related resources of one or more servers, consolidating data into a single, resilient, central location with automatic backup, providing low latency, high bandwidth connectivity.

Load Balancing
Cisco Content Switches
In order to provide faster response times for busy websites, load balancers (or content switches) direct traffic to individual servers based on their load, availability or response times, distributing activity across a network so that no single server is overwhelmed.
Load balancers ensure continuous and responsive operation. This is particularly important for customers with large enterprise web sites that experience high volumes of traffic, and where more than one web server has been deployed.
Smartbunker uses the Cisco Content Services Switch family, which optionally provide cryptographic acceleration for customers hosting secure (SSL - Secure Sockets Layer) web sites.

Microsoft Server Software
If you require supplementary Microsoft server applications without the need for capital outlay to purchase licences, we are able to provide additional Microsoft software. The cost can be included in your monthly fee on a subscription basis. We offer the complete range of Microsoft server products, including all Windows server products. (Web, Enterprise, 64 etc.).
